What is ASMR?

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.

ASMR describes a relaxing, tingly feeling that some people experience around their scalp and neck. This feeling sometimes extends into the face and throughout the body. ASMR is not consciously brought out and autonomously happens when a person encounters a particular type of trigger.

Some common triggers include:

  • Whispering
  • Personal Attention
  • Tapping & Scratching
  • Blowing and brushing on microphones
  • Page turning
  • Mouth sounds
  • Repetitive tasks
  • Ambient sounds
  • Visual ASMR; Hand movements, "flowy" actions

Everyone has a preference for the types of triggers they enjoy and which they find relaxing.
